Finding Support

One of the absolutely best things to do for yourself is find support while you are in this infertility maze. It doesn’t matter if it is a friend, co-worker, spouse or someone you meet here at myfertileground.com – talk – just as long as they are an encourager, supporter and great listener. Coping with infertility can be difficult. It's an issue of the unknown — you can't predict how long it will last or what the outcome will be in the end. Infertility isn't necessarily solved with hard work. The emotional burden on a couple is considerable, and plans for coping can help.

One great suggestion before you venture down the ART road, is to decide, in advance, how many and what kind of procedures are emotionally and financially acceptable for you and your partner. Then attempt to determine a final limit. Fertility treatments may be expensive and often not covered by insurance companies, and sometimes a successful pregnancy depends on repeated attempts. Some couples become so focused on treatment that they continue with fertility procedures until they are emotionally and financially drained. Know your limits and stick with them.

Get to know what alternatives — adoption, donor sperm or egg, or no children — so that you can reduce your stress level and anxiety prior to the fertility so that the feelings of hopelessness are confined if conception does not occur.

Locate support groups or counseling services for help before and after treatment to help endure the process and ease the grief should your protocol fail.
